About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and analytical Senior Credit Risk Analyst to support the organisation in assessing credit risk, strengthening portfolio quality, and ensuring sound lending decisions. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in underwriting high-ticket SME and commercial transactions, particularly across asset financing, supply chain financing, commercial/trade finance, and oil & gas financing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the creditworthiness of loan applicants by analysing financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant information.
  • Conduct thorough credit risk assessments and recommend appropriate credit limits, terms, and conditions.
  • Review loan applications and make recommendations in line with established credit policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor existing loan portfolios to identify potential risks, emerging trends, and adverse developments.
  • Develop and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies, including collateral requirements, restructuring, and collections initiatives.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, collections, compliance, and other relevant teams to ensure consistent application of credit policies and procedures.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in credit risk management.
  • Prepare and present credit risk reports, analyses, and recommendations to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in credit committee meetings and provide input on credit decisions, portfolio performance, and emerging risk trends.
  • Foster effective relationships with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and regulatory agencies to support sound risk management and compliance.

Requirements

  • BSc/HND in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 4–6 years relevant experience in credit risk, credit analysis, or loan underwriting.
  • Strong experience underwriting SME and commercial credit transactions, particularly high-ticket facilities.
  • Experience with transactions typically within the ₦100 million–₦500 million single obligor range is highly desirable.
  • Experience in underwriting Asset Financing, LPO Financing, Invoice Discounting, and Supply Chain Financing.
  • Exposure to Commercial & Trade Finance, Industrial Goods, or Oil & Gas financing will be an advantage.
  • Strong credit risk assessment and mitigation skills.
  • Strong data analysis and customer segmentation capabilities.
  • Good knowledge of regulatory compliance and credit policies.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Data-driven and technology savvy.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and collaborate across teams.
